And Österlen is full of history, with its medieval castles and churches, and archaeological sites, some as ancient as from Bronze Age, some still mysterious and not unfolded, like the famous Ales Stenar in Kåseberga, or the King´s Grave in Kivik.

St Nicholas Church (Sankt Nicolai kyrka) in Simrishamn is mentioned for the first time in 1161. Originally a chapel it has expanded through times. The tower was added in the 15th century, and the delicately carved pulpit dates from 1626. MORE
Ales 1 history  / Ales Stenar at Kåseberga

It consists of 59 megalithic stones, some higher than 3 meters, standing in proper positions to form the mystical shape of a big ship or eclipse. Ales Stenar.  MORE 
For thousands of years, this huge mound of stone near Kivik was a big mystery. Now is one of the most important historical findings in Sweden, Kungagraven in Kivik. MORE 

Klostret, or the Abbey in Ystad was founded in the year 1267 by the members of the Franciscan order. Ruined and rebuild more than once, but never abandoned. MORE

In the center of Simrishamn there is Österlens Museum, a museum of regional cultural history. This museum keeps unique collections of textiles and art, fishing, and maritime history as well as geological and ancient objects. MORE

abraham history / Skillinge Museum
During the period 1848-1948, there were 314 commercial sailing vessels registered in Skillinge. Captains from Skillinge sailed all over the world.  MORE

Church history / St. Olof Church
